GeoSpoc, part of UNICEF Venture Fund's investment in skills and connectivity, will be developing a comprehensive database and visualization platform to map schools and hospitals in developing countries to aid better decision-making.
GeoSpoc uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to unlock the potential of satellite data.
Using Frontier Technology
The mission of GeoSpoc is to identify data, create a comprehensive database, and map that information on a visualization platform. GeoSpatial utilizes artificial intelligence on high-resolution optical data (satellite images) to train deep learning models that can detect school and hospital entities. This improved decision-making tools ensures that current and reliable data is available and empowers planners & decision-makers during the early stages of ideation and the planning process.
GeoSpoc’s Open Source development will allow the community to build on the solution and modify it to suit their requirements. GeoSpoc is aiming to build a community that will contribute towards identifying other urban/rural infrastructures across the globe that can help in urban planning.
In mid-2014, while working in the United Kingdom, I read about the Government of India’s mission to create a National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI), a national GIS database. The news of the NSDI made me think about the immense potential to enable large parts of India with such powerful GIS technologies. Later that year, I moved back to India from the UK to start my own GIS company. Each member of the team brings in complementary skills from various fields like cutting-edge technology, business, and finance. Diversity in the workplace, be it gender, experience, or age, is extremely close to GeoSpoc’s heart. GeoSpoc invests time and resources into creating opportunities that enable any of its employees to build new skill sets and evolve as professionals.
Over the last few years, GeoSpoc has been studying some of the toughest problems that humanity is currently facing in various fields. A big part of GeoSpoc’s work involves collaborating with organizations and experts. GeoSpoc believes that together, we can solve problems faced by the underprivileged, society as a whole and the environment. This investment from the UNICEF Venture Fund will enable GeoSpoc to develop solutions that make a positive impact and help give back to society.
