Leonardo A. Pachón is a Physicist from the Industrial University of Santander, holds a PhD in Physics from the National University of Colombia, and completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Toronto and Harvard University. He is a Senior Scientist in the Colombian Research System, with expertise in quantum physics, general relativity, and the application of statistical physics and artificial intelligence tools to solve complex problems. In 2015, he was selected as one of the Top 15 Innovators and Entrepreneurs under 35 in Colombia by The Falling Walls Foundation in Germany. In 2019, he was named one of the Top 10 Entrepreneurial Scientists in Colombia by the Swiss Embassy in Colombia.
Leonardo is an Associate Professor and has served as the Graduate Program Coordinator and later as the Director of the Institute of Physics of the University of Antioquia UdeA. His scientific research has earned him the first-place award in the UdeA Research Prize twice, making him the youngest recipient, and he was named UNESCO's World Academy of Sciences Young Scientist of the Year in Colombia in 2018. In 2018, he co-founded Guane Emerging Technologies, recognized by ANDI as the most innovative startup in Colombia in 2022 and 2023; by the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce as the leading startup in artificial intelligence and technologies for the energy sector in Colombia in 2022 and 2023; one of Forbes Colombia's 30 Business Promises in 2023; and listed among the TOP 100 energy sector startups with the greatest impact worldwide by the German Energy Agency and the World Energy Council. In 2023, Leonardo received the ANDI Business Creation Award and the UdeA University Extension Award.
